As a diligent and results-oriented person, I have the ability to work independently and take initiatives to get the needed results. My experience in addressing human rights concerns while working with Commonwealth Human Rights Initiatives has also positioned me to understand the depth and dynamics this role would require. I was also a consultant for United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to assist in the release of refugees and asylum seekers(POCs) who were detained across the north-eastern states of India. To fulfill my roles in supporting foreign nationals in prisons (including refugees and asylum seekers), I have liaised with lawyers, prison officials, government bodies and international organizations to bridge the gaps in our system. Through those efforts I was able to assist 700+ prisoners in their release, ensuring legal representation, conducting interviews and in absentia registrations, providing adequate identification documentation and counselling, and most importantly communication with family or consular visits. To ensure the continuity of my work, we collaborated with 6 SLSA's in training panel lawyers and paralegal volunteers to better assist foreign prisoners, refugees and asylum seekers. Through my experience, I have gained valuable knowledge in: - Qualitative and quantitative research at grassroots and national levels. - Record management skills to maintain files and electronic records confidentially. - Excellent communication skills – including written and oral, interpersonal and liaison skills. - Preparing a variety of documents and management reports. - Evaluation and addressal of problems in independent cases. - Advanced skills in assessing levels of emotional distress and reacting appropriately. In closing, I am thrilled at the possibility and believe I can be a great addition to your organization.
